Default 2000 YZ 250 Clutch problems

Okey dokey, as some of you know, I junked my old TS 250 that I was trying to restore, and just bought a 2000 YZ 250. So my main problem is clutch drag, when its in gear and I pull the clutch in, the tranny doesnt disengage from the engine and it just locks up. My engine wont turn over unless im in neutral. When I start moving in first and I get the clutch all the way out, then try to bring it back in, I keep moving until the engine just stalls on me, it stalls immediately when I use the back brake with the clutch in. I took the flywheel cover off, and saw that the lever moved all the way up when I pulled in the clutch, I took the clutch side off, and I found that the pressure plate moves a fair distance away from the disks, but the friction disks, and the metal plates seem to stick to each other until I pull them apart with my fingers. This has been extremely annoying because Its hard to control my bike properly without the full use of my clutch, and its a pain in the ass to have to shift into neutral all the time before stopping. The P.O was using a high performance Honda racing oil for the transmission, could that be my problem? I heard the thicker the oil the less the clutch can slip. HELP

Have you tried checking your clutch basket for grooves? Sometimes Grooves can get wornt into the clutch basket making it hard for the disks to move properly. If grooves happen to be worn into your basket...just file them smooth and you'll be good. Try another oil also cause i think your right about the oil thickness thing. If all else failes....get a clutch kit for it.

do NOT file the grooves, your just adding that much more stress to the basket fingers, it sounds like your clutch plates are worn out. is the cable all the way out on the clutch perch? new fibers and springs i'm almost 100% positive will cure the problem

There are no grooves, the basket is fine. Ill measure all the plates later today, yea I just gave them a look, and they look fine to me, but I guess I could be wrong. Whats a clutch perch? I'll also check the springs.

Well mister MX filing the grooves on worn baskets has worked for me and others i know quite a few times...its better than having to replace the basket. And if its bad enough the clutch cant work properly so stress or no stress its better than buying a new part when your short on cash. Even so...he said his looks fine so thats ruled out.

Well I cleaned and checked all the plates, for warpage, and thinning. So signs, so I just dried them all completely off, and put on fresh oil. I assembled the clutch and now the drag has gone down quite a bit, there is still some drag, but not enough to stall the engine So Im guessing I'm good to go for now, thanks for the help guys. I'll be back if It starts acting up again lol.
