Default can a 2003 banshee use 87 octane?

just got back from a trip to upstate new yorks backwoods, and ran into a problem. i couldnt find 93 octane anywhere there was 2 gas stations and neither had 89 or 93 octane!!! the banshee requires 93 octane but can i in an emergency use 87 octane? it has stock everything including the 6.5/1 compression and seems like it wouldnt cause detonation but im not sure? didnt even think to take octane boost. thanks ed

Also you can get some Octane boosters I would not recommend using them unless you have to but something good to have in a jam

Nothing like coming into Toyz. I don't like octane boosters but I bring a few when I go snowmobiling because we go up into the woods and the only gas is the only gas your going to get sometimes so it is better than running 87 in the dead of winter. Not to mention running about half a bottle of dry gas just so the carbs don't freeze up. Had a carb freeze up on me one time and that is a bitch. When it is -20 and your trying to dethaw a carb, we got a hair dryer from the hotel and got it going again thank god.

I reckon you might get away with a lower octane only if the elevation is so much that the atmospheric pressure has dropped. The only way to see if this is the case, is to measure your compression at the area where you ride and on the day of the ride.

Having said that, here in South Africa the pump gas varies in octane rating from 97 to 87 depending on the elevation and area, and I always carry along some extra 97 just in case....

hey i found a great fix for frozen carbs that cost next to nothing and works great even in the middle of buttfuk nowhere. first get the thin metal tubing of one of the carbuerated cars that preheats the air cleaner lid and a computer fan theyre cheap and easy to find. cut the tubing in half and attach both sides of fan to the tubing. thats it a couple feet of wire and touch to battery. the intake end of tubing goes to the hot exhaust and exhaust heat to the carbs. this whole thing with the folding tubing and wires folds up to like 1 foot and fits easy in the tool compartment. rigged this up after get stuck in the middle of nowhere once. hell probably works great as a defroster ill see this winter

or dump some stp water remover in every tank of gas....keeps all the moisture out of the gas. and i've only ran 87 octane in my blaster. it ran fine with it. i know its not reccommended and i'll be runnin 94 once i get my motor worked over.....but when only have 6:1 compression i really dont think its needed...when you buy gas for cars you dont need race fuel until your up around 12:1 but 10:1 cars can run on 93-94 octane gas and not have a worry in the world....
